My favorite Christmas activity, other than opening presents :), is decorating the Christmas tree! A few years ago my husband and I actually had so many ornaments we started putting up two trees. Our cats love laying under, climbing in and sometimes knocking over our trees and those moments create some of my favorite photos. If you like including trees on your Christmas layouts here are some unique ways to create them for your Holiday Scrapbook designs.

Paige’s fun tree has so much wonderful color, pattern and dimension! She made her tree with folded loops of pattern papers, this is an amazing way to use up scraps of paper! She included glittery and textured snowy hills, presents and a tiny village beneath her tree with lots of different types of snowflakes on the background. Eva’s page doesn’t have an entire tree but a single beautiful tree branch she created with a row of printed die cut Holiday greenery. From the bough she hung printed ornaments hung from real string, adding photos to some of them. I’m crazy about that wavy layered frame she made around the edge too! Ashley included a variety of different trees on her merry layout. She die cut 3 trees from pattern paper, adding faux stitching to one with a gel pen, mixing them with printed chipboard Christmas trees. I love the bright cheerful non-traditional colors on this Christmas layout! This digital design uses a template that creates a tree shape from words and images like greenery, snowflakes, candy canes, florals and more but you could create something similar yourself with dies or stamps. I spotted this idea at Sweet Shoppe Designs.

Christine created her own Christmas tree using tags, she fussy cut them from pattern paper but you could die cut or punch the tag shapes too, adding the grommet at the top. Here’s a simple but effective way to create your own tree it’s using the round tip of a marker to create dots, simply created a large triangle of dots, add a star on top and a few gems for ornaments. A red pen also created the fun polka dot frame too. Find direction on the Creative Memories blog.

Using stamps is a great way to customize because you can use any color of ink you’d like and place them anywhere on the page. Here Nicole stamped a rectangular blue ink pad directly to the background paper and then stamped the trees in green over top and created a custom background. There’s also lots of chipboard, clusters of botanicals and torn paper for depth and texture. Learn more at the 49th and Market blog.

Jill designed a tree with loads of texture by cutting an ombre’ of green papers with fringe scissors and slightly curling the edges, adding a star on top. She placed her chipboard title and some presents underneath and over top is the photo, some sequins, a pendant banner and more chipboard shapes and words. For last I’ve saved what I think is the most clever tree idea. This comes from Christine and she used white photo corners to create her trees, how smart is that!? Placing them on dark plaid paper really makes them pop and she also included her photos cut in circles, a tag, swirls of string, a die cut title and cute Santas too.
