How to Collect Leftover Thread and Why You Might Want to – Cross-Stitch

Sometimes the random things I get shown on Etsy or Pinterest lead me in different directions than you’d expect. Recently I came across this cool old Whitman’s candy tin that was made to look like it was stamped with cross stitch, which had me searching for a cross stitch version of the infamous butter cookie sewing tin.

I couldn’t find any of those (maybe that’s a project for me to design?) but I did come across some other fun candy cross stitch projects.

First there’s these adorable gummy bears from Mariana Goncalves ART. The full design is57 by 51 stitches, but you could also stitch individual ones, or line them up vertically to stitch a gummy bookmark. As shown the design is 4.1 by 3.6 inches or 10.3 by 9.3 cm, on 14 count fabric.

Speaking of gummies, Lucky Frog Pixels has this cute sampler of gummy candies, from fish to rings and bears to worms. This project uses 38 colors and measures 84 by 85 stitches. On 14 count fabric that comes out to 6.1 inches or 15.6 cm, which the designer says fits in a 9-inch hoop.

For Valentine’s Day and beyond there’s this cute jar of candy hearts designed by HOME and CATS. This is a pattern for stitchers with some experience, because it uses full and quarter cross stitches as well as backstitch, and it uses 30 colors. The design is 65 by 70 stitches, which is 4.6 by 5 inches, or 11.7 by 12.6 cm on 14 count fabric.

British stitchers will enjoy this ode to All Sorts from Stitchrovia. Stitch the full design or a few of your favorite shapes. The whole piece is 120 by 180 stitches and it uses 20 colors. The pattern notes suggest different fabric counts, but on 14 count fabric it comes out to 8.6 by 12.9 inches/21.8 by 32.8 cm.

And speaking of British sweets, there’s also this magical project full of Honeydukes candies from Harry Potter. The design is from Patronus Stitch and comes out to 12.5 by 5.7 inches/31.75 by 14.5 cm on 14 count fabric. The notes don’t say how many colors it uses but I’ll bet it’s a lot!
