Snow Globe Learning Activities – Lesson Plans

Last year I did a post all about snow globe crafts, but this year let’s try to make it a little more educational with some learning activities with a snow globe theme.

This snow globe letter find from Kindergarten Worksheets and Games is a fun one for kiddos learning letter recognition. Each letter has its own sheet and there are upper case and lower case letters to find in the flurry of the snow globe that can be circled or covered with do a dot marker.

Speaking of dot markers, they’ll also come in handy for this roll and cover dice game using a snow globe printable from The Kindergarten Connection. This is a great way to practice number recognition and understanding that the dots on the die and the numeral mean the same thing.

Use a marker or cotton balls to find and cover letters of the alphabet in this activity from Fun Learning for Kids. You could also use buttons or tiny erasers. The printable set here includes the snow globe with letters inside and a set of cards with images on them. Kids cover the letter of the beginning sound of the image on the card.

If you have a white shipping box handy you can make a snow globe counting and fine motor activity as shown in this video from Happy Tot Shelf. Draw a snow globe and poke holes in it, then kids can stick cotton swabs in the holes. They can use a die and count out a certain number, or you can give them a few and have them count how many there are as they place them.

Or do some winter counting with these printables from Preschool Play and Learn. The snow globe has room for snowflakes, and the printable cards tell kids how many to place. Again you can use buttons, beads, cotton balls or anything you have handy to decorate your snow globe.

This one is a bit of a craft because it includes making a snow globe for the child’s picture to be stuck in but you can also just use the writing prompt “what would you do if you were trapped in a snow globe?” Get all the details and the craft instructions from Teach Create Motivate.
